Mr Aurelius said it was necessary to proceed with the work, and he regarded the site as one of the best in the valley. Aurelius gave notice of motion that the Council ask for tenders for the erection of the building upon the site selected, and this motion came before a meeting of the Council at Hen- goed on Monday night. The District Council were informed recently by the county authority that unless the provision of a hospital was proceeded with at once, they would appoint a special committee and erect the building, charging the cost to Gelligaer ratepayers. Jones, the Gelligaer medical officer, on the other hand, were in favour of it. A Local Government Board inquiry was held, but the inspector did not recommend the selected site.

Powell, driver and fireman of tha North London train, slight injuries. First aid was quickly rendered to the injured and three were taken to University College Hospital, where they are detained. The driver and fireman of both engines remained on the foot- plate, but were violently pitched against the toiler end. The other coaches remained on the rails, and although the few passengers they contained were thrown vio- lently about none seem to have sustained any injuries, only two, a lady and gentleman, having complained to the railway officials of having been severely shaken.

The succeeding coach was also derailed, and the windows were smashed into fragments. The guard was pitched out on the ballast, otherwise he must have been killed instantaneously, for the coach was smashed into splinters. Further details show that the first coach of the in-coming train was the guard's van, which was completely wrecked. One of the passengers, hqwever, was seriously hurt. With the exception of Patmore the injured railwaymen had all to be detained in the hospital. Howes, of Burns-road, Harlesden, sustained a fractured rib and scalp wounds, and the North- Western fireman, Frank Burton, of Fortingate- road, Willesden, sustained slight injuries. The driver of the North London engine, Robert Patmore, of Bollobridge-road, Acton, r escaped with superficial cuts on the eye and chin. Cooke, of Leith-road, Acton, and in addition to cuts and bruises he sustained a double fracture of the ankle and injuries to the wrist. The guard was perhaps the most seriously injured. Both engines, however, were damaged, and the gasometer in the guard's van of the train exploded, shattering the carriage to pieces. Fortunately the North-Western train was slowing down. A London and North-Western train from the Mansion House, while entering the station, ran into a stationary North London engine. collision resulting in injuries to four persons occurred in the fog at about 5.35 on Monday afternoon at Willesden Junction Station.
